Creaform upgrades its dimensional inspection solution with the release of a laser projection plug-in

2025-05-16

LEVIS, QUEBEC, Canada, March 4, 2025 – Creaform, an AMETEK brand and a global provider of portable and automated 3D inspection solutions, today announced a new laser projection plug-in, part of the recently released Creaform Metrology Suite™, which opens up new possibilities for operators across a wide range of industries. Creaform's recent acquisition of Virtek Vision enables this plug-in to further expand the capabilities of its inspection modules to provide a new generation of metrology-compliant vision guidance for a wide range of applications.

The laser projection plug-in enables operators to scan parts, analyze deviations with reference models, and project important information directly onto the physical part during critical manufacturing processes, a process we call Scan > Analyze > Project. Its "Pick and Project" function, combined with a dynamic reference function, enables real-time projection of options in the inspection software with a single click. Whereas, both technologies use the same targeting point and frame of reference, ensuring seamless integration with existing system equipment.

This laser projection plug-in offers a range of solutions for industries that require precise operator guidance, such as foundry, aerospace, heavy industry, energy, and military, including:

Precise repair and rework of high-value parts: Operators can compare scan data to standard CAD models, analyze part consistency, and project the necessary information onto parts to ensure accurate rework to meet customer specifications.

Precise Component Installation: Creaform's 3D scanners work in tandem with Virtek Vision projectors to project critical information onto assemblies to ensure flawless installation in industries such as aerospace, heavy industry, and military.

Machined Raw Material Alignment Positioning: This solution helps operators optimize the setup of large castings or forgings on CNC machines, reducing setup time by projecting alignment marks and ensuring that there is enough material for machining.

Thickness inspection during composite manufacturing: This insert supports inspection during the laying of composite materials to ensure that there are no potential defects such as folds or bubbles between the layers.

"The recently announced expansion of the Creaform Metrology Suite leverages the synergies of Creaform's and Virtek technologies to deliver a solution that is unique to the market," said Simon Côté, Creaform's Product Manager. He adds, "The combination of laser 3D projection with a portable 3D scanner that complies with metrology standards opens up new opportunities to reduce errors and increase productivity for high-value parts and complex assemblies." ”
